Protecting the New Forest
Thank you for helping us care for this special place by following the simple nine steps of the New Forest code. The National Park is a unique place with rare wildlife and free-roaming livestock. By following the code, you can help protect it for future generations.

Public Service Protection Orders
Our partner New Forest District Council has put in force two Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) across specific restricted areas. The orders ban the following activities:
PSPO 1
- placing, throwing or dropping items likely to cause a fire
- or lighting fires (of any type) or barbeques (including disposable barbeques and any outdoor temporary cooking facilities or equipment).
This PSPO applies in this restricted area.
PSPO 2
- feeding or providing or depositing food for consumption by any New Forest pony, horse, mule or donkey
- or petting or touching any New Forest pony, horse, mule or donkey.
This PSPO applies in this restricted area.
If you see an active fire, or an unattended BBQ/campfires/cooking equipment you should get to a place of safety and call 999 to report it to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service. If you are unsure of what is prohibited or which areas are covered, more information is available at https://newforest.gov.uk/PSPO.
