Coastal Paederus beetles

The Coastal Paederus is a slender, rove beetle typically associated with coastal habitats, saltmarshes and damp grassland.

In the New Forest, it can be found in suitable wet areas near the coast, where undisturbed vegetation provides cover.

Though small and easily overlooked, it is part of the rich invertebrate diversity that thrives in the New Forest’s varied habitats.

Like many specialist species, its presence reflects the importance of maintaining healthy, unspoilt wetland and coastal environments.
