NOTICE OF MAKING OF A DIRECTION PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 4(1) IN RESPECT OF ALL LAND IN THE NEW FOREST NATIONAL PARK (WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT)

TAKE NOTICE that the above mentioned Direction was made pursuant to Article 4(1) of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended, the Order) by the New Forest National Park Authority, being the appropriate local planning authority, on 17 October 2023.

The Direction will come into force on 27 October 2023.

The effect of the Direction will be to withdraw permitted development rights within Class BC of Part 4 of Schedule 2 of the Order across the whole of the New Forest National Park in respect of any development consisting of use of land as a temporary recreational campsite unless both of the following apply:

  • the land was first used as a temporary recreational campsite before 1 March 2020; and
  • the use of the land as a temporary recreational campsite is for not more than 28 days in total in any calendar year.

Once the Direction comes into effect, any development of land consisting of the use of that land as a temporary recreational campsite as described above will not be permitted unless express planning permission is first granted by the New Forest National Park Authority.

The Direction and accompanying Plan have been placed and may be seen free of charge at the offices of the New Forest National Park Authority, Town Hall, Avenue Road, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 9ZG, between the hours of 9.00 am and 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. Copies of the Direction and Plan are also available to view on the Authority’s website at https://www.newforestnpa.gov.uk.

Any representations about the Direction should be made at any time from 27 October 2023 but no later than 1 December 2023 addressed to the Policy Manager, New Forest National Park Authority, Town Hall, Avenue Road, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 9ZG or by email to policy@newforestnpa.gov.uk, quoting “Article 4 Direction – temporary recreational campsites”.

The Direction comes into force with immediate effect but will expire unless it has been confirmed by the New Forest National Park Authority within six months of its effective date.

In deciding whether to confirm the Direction, the New Forest National Park Authority will take into account any representations that are received no later than 1 December 2023.
